Askjasleikir.......Bowl-licker is a very brave little fellow. He sneaks around waiting for someone in the household to put down their food bowl. Then the brazen little fellow snatches it away and licks it clean. Askjasleikir has to be fast on his feet to get away from the bowl's angry owner.
Today I am going to show you a little Nisse (Pixie) that I made last year. He lives in California.
He was worried about his hat getting crushed on his trip from the East Coast to the West Coast...I told him not to worry. Then I gave him a little kiss...he gave me a wink and a smile and said "Will I be happy with my new family in California" I told him that I would never send him to a place where he would not be happy.
I am working on one for my little Grandson, Victor. I am hoping that it will be ready to go to Denmark with me in a couple of days.
Ken and I will be spending Christmas and New Years with our Son and his Danish Family.
While I am away the Jolasveinars will continue to appear each day by TypePad magic.
Once I am ensconced comfortably in my Son's home, I will be checking in with you from time to time.
I am not sure that I can make regular visits to your blogs. You will be in my thoughts and I look froward to visiting all of you in the New Year.
This year I will be giving away one of the little Jolasveinar
(Christmas Elf). I will be drawing a name from the comments. All the
names for each day will be added to the hat...so that if you comment
each day your changes will be greater. Only one comment per post..please.
The Jolasveinn (Christmas
Elf) that has the most comments will be the prize. If there is an
equal number of comments on each post, there will be a drawing for the
giveaway Jolasveinn (Christmas Elf).
There is also one small rule...I would like to have a least ten comments on each post :)
The drawing will be on January 7th, 2009. Good Luck.
Ha! Once a friend bought a boyfriend to my house for Christmas dinner, and he licked his PLATE! Not so cute in a full size human!

I love the rear view of this one, with his little striped cap and vest! Your colors and attention to detail are amazing!

I would like to see him try and steal the bowl from my cat. The cat barely lets the dog eat her own food!
Another great costume.
Hope your visit with family is lovely.

I Love Askasleikir the Bowl Licker. He's face tells it all. I don't know which one is my favorite but Askasleikir is on the top of my list right now. :-)

Its a wonder he doesn't put on weight lol! I wish I was like that. What a lovely face he has I bet everyone forgives him for being so naughty.

Ho Mo'a. One of your jolasveins has made it to Norway/Iceland, with a visit in my blog today, and also in Marta's advent blog.
Thanks alot for the photo and your tales.

Green, my favorite. The pixies are adorable.

Judging by the happy look on his face I would guess he found something really yummy to lick in that bowl.
How wonderful that you are going home to spend Christmas with your family. Have a safe and delightful trip, Mo'a!

Another lovely elg - I am especially partial to his green outfit. I love anything and everything green. We need to do something about that empty bowl!!

Yet again another sweet face. I really like seeing their back view too. It is getting really cold here. I will be on the lookout for any of them.

Bowl Licker, the sixth one,
was shockingly ill bred.
From underneath the bedsteads
he stuck his ugly head.
And when the bowls were left
to be licked by dog or cat,
he snatched them for himself
- he was sure good at that!
(Jóhannes úr Kötlum, translated by Hallberg Hallmundsson)
Nowadays we wouldn't put our wooden food-bowl on the floor for the pet's licking. How can Askasleikir survive in more hygienic modern times? I observed him today and made a report about the poor lad on my blog.
