Ken gave me a Swedish sewing box for Christmas. He noticed that when I was not needling "little men", I was sewing by hand. The sewing box sits next to my chair in the family room, where I do most of my hand sewing.
The style of painting comes from Darlana in Sweden...where they also make the famous painted Dala horses.
There is a little drawer that is just right for all my twist...yarn.
When you open the top, there is a lovely painting and the date when it was made.
And a tray that now houses my collection of sewing implements. All of these implements were inherited from Ken's Mother, Grandmother and Aunt. Each of whom had her own speciality.
My Mother-in-law used the sewing machine and made most of her own clothes. She used to make a bath rope for me almost every Christmas. Ken's Grandmother liked to crochet and knit. And Aunt Mabel did the most amazing Italian embroidery. I am lucky enough to have many of the pieces of embroidery that she made.
Underneath the tray, is a big space where I have bits and pieces of fabric, that I will be using for Jude's Contemporary Woven Boro workshop.
In future posts I will be showing you some of Aunt Mabel's wonderful embroidery, as I will be using some of the pieces in Jude's workshop.
My new header is part of a long piece, that I did in Jude's Cloth to Cloth workshop this past summer.
