Ice,Cake and Swan

There are times when we have no snow here in Southern New Jersey all winter. I cannot remember when the last time the lakes on the way to my mother's house were frozen solid.

I imagine the lone Swan on the lake thinking of times past when his favorite space on the lake was not frozen and he could get at the delectable morsels below. 

I feel sorry for him. I remember when he had a companion at his side...it has been four years since we saw his mate swimming beside him.

He is a proud and beautiful sitting there alone on the ice.  Perhaps he is remembering the visit he had from a Swan family four years ago...will they visit again this year? I hope so. 

I took a series of photos of the Swan and as I was photographing the light kept changing...hence the different colors of the photos.

Icicles on one of the bushes at my mother's house.  And then, at a local shopping center, I noticed this frozen fountain that looks like a wedding cake. 

 Speaking of cake, I made and decorated this cake yesterday for a dinner party.  The cake is called Orange Lavender Polenta Cake. Recipe here. try it I think you will find it very good delicious. The recipe for the cake is from Susan Branch.  The decorations are made from marzipan, using cookie cutters from Susan's on line shop, with a little embellishment by me :) Susan's blog is wonderful and very popular...give her a visit and tell her that Mo'a sent you.

If I Were Cooking In Italy....

...I would go to Ventimiglia on the Italian Riviera, on market day.

I would start with some  Escargots, one can get them very fresh there. 

Then I would have some Antipasti...such as a wild mushroom, olives and other delectable treats. A lovely exotic cheeses that I have never tasted before and fresh fruit.

 

I would have fresh fish with fresh vegetables. 

I am dreaming of all the lovely treats I had when I was in Pigna, Italy. Perhaps I am nostalgic because my Son and his Family  are in Pigna, on their summer vacation.

I am lucky that I live in the Garden State, NJ...here around every corner we have great vegetable stands, featuring locally grown produce.

I will be able to make a lovely dinner for the Newlyweds from Denmark, who are Honeymooning here in the  States.

I will make the an all American Dinner.  Barbecued  spareribs, fresh corn on the cob, Jersey tomatoes, a lovely potato  salad, fresh salad and ratatoulle.  For desert we will have fresh peaches and blueberries that are now in season. 
This dinner is exotic to them.  The grass is always greener on the other side. I like my life here and am happy to share some of our summer food traditions with our friends from Denmark.

I am loath to start posts with apologies...although I have done that several times...so I am ending the post in such a manner.
I have not been able to visit all your blogs in the last few weeks.  One reason being, I have another sinus infection...do you have any ideas how I can get rid of those infections once and for all?
The other reason being, that at the same time, but not related. I have had problems with my eyes...all is well now, both are being taken care of and I am getting better every minute.
