I have neglected you woefully...for this I apologize. I want to thank all of you that visited my Tea Party and for all your lovely comments. Mr. and Mrs. Hatter have been enjoying your complimentary comments and thank you also.
I also want to thank you for visiting and your heartfelt comments on my last post "A Wedding in Denmark". My surrogate couple behaved themselves quite well and got many compliments...this was reported to me by my Son.
This past Friday I made the plunge. I joined the crowd and became a member of Facebook. I had many reasons for not joining ..."I have a blog and people can visit me here"..."I don't need another internet distraction"...and the one that got a laugh from my Husband..."I don't want any old boyfriends to come out of the woodworks" at that he said "Do you think they are still living"
Well, that is a thought, we have been married for 37 years, and nary a boyfriend has come out of the woodwork :)
So after getting invitations to join by numerous friends and family, I joined when I got an invitation from my Son...how could I refuse.
I have found it quite entertaining. I asked a few people to be my friend and one thing led to another and now I have 57 friends since Friday...more to come, I am quite certain.
Many of my friends on Facebook are young, in their 20's, I am struck by their language...yes, many are in Icelandic...but that is not what I mean. They have their own language, the way some families have phrases and abbreviations that they use.
My young friends language no doubt born out of necessity in order to facilitate text messaging. I find this fascinating and enjoy it immensely, even though I don't understand much of what they are saying .
Every day I regale my Husband with stories about what I heard on Facebook. "B, is going to Sanaefelsnes to a summer house there" "C, is having salmon and peas, for the 4th of July, she has friends coming over" "I saw pictures of H's husband and baby" "OD invited me to become a member of descendants of...." and so it goes. I am connecting with Friends and Family in Iceland, that I have missed so much, these many years that I have lived here in the States. Many of us see each other when I visit Iceland, when they come here or through Christmas cards....but this is different. I am now seeing instant and in many cases day to day activities in their lives.
I have also found new and interesting things tell my Mother...she also loves hearing about friends and family that live across the big pond.
That I think is what makes Facebook special.
Now I suppose I will be tweeting soon !!! I still have my heals dug in on that...but, I have been know to change.
Are you a member of Facebook? Do you tweet? I would love to hear your opinions :)
